Tis the Season...

Todays games

TAMPA BAY (7-8) at TENNESSEE (11-4) - The defending champs are dead-and-buried and now many in-the-know folks believe the Tennessee Titans will be the next Super Bowl champs. But first things first and Jeff Fisher's crew must win (or tie) here and have Indianapolis lose at touchdown-underdog Houston in order for the Titans to win the AFC South. Tennessee hasn't exactly shined down the stretch here with an 0-5-1 ATS mark the past six weeks and did you know that the last time Tennessee covered a pointspread was that 31-7 home win against 5 ½-point underdog Miami all the way back on November 9th.

If the Titans are going to throw their weight around here, then slowing down T-Bay quarterback Brad Johnson is key. Johnson's thrown 26 touchdown passes and he leads all NFC passers with 3,715 yards passing and that's not too shabby considering one-time top target WR Keyshawn Johnson hasn't played for the pewter gang for the past five weeks.

The one stat that'll really interest us here is time of possession as Tennessee ate up 36:18 last Sunday in that 27-24 come-from-behind non-cover win at Houston and the Titans rushed the ball 35 times and threw it 36 times in that tilt and are looking for similar run/pass balance here.

Spread Notes - Tennessee is 8-2 ATS in regular-season finales the past 10 years while Tampa Bay is 4-8 spreadwise ever since that Week #4 bye.

DENVER (10-5) at GREEN BAY (9-6) - There's a myriad of ways the G-Bay Packers can clinch a playoff berth but Mike Sherman's team doesn't want to blow the momentum built up the past three weeks when his club has copped back-to-back-to-back wins/covers against Chicago/San Diego/Oakland.

No doubt the emotion of last Monday Night's 41-7 win against Oakland the day after QB Brett Favre lost his father to a fatal heart attack will be remembered for a long, long time and now Favre - who threw for 399 yards and four TDs in that prime-time tilt - will be going up against a Denver defense that ranks third in the league in stopping the pass (260.5 yards a game) and limited high-octane Indianapolis to just 11 first downs last week while QB Peyton Manning completed only 12 passes.

Is it tough to win/cover back-to-back weeks on the NFL road? We've always said it is but the Packers did just that with the wins/covers on the left coast the past two weeks and now Denver's shooting for a similar scenario and probably again without the services of RB Clinton Portis (1,591 yards rushing).

Spread Notes - Denver is 5-2 ATS away this year after going 4-11-1 ATS on the road the prior two seasons. Green Bay is 6-2 spreadwise ever since a Week #8 bye.

PITTSBURGH (6-9) at BALTIMORE (9-6)
- Did the Bengals win at home versus Cleveland? If so, then Brian Billick's Ravens must win to cop the AFC North crown and don't forget that they're trying to get RB Jamal Lewis his 2,000-plus yards here (he enters with 1,952 yards and 13 TDs).

While ESPN is gabbing on-and-on here about the playoff matchups and what not, remember that Baltimore hasn't beaten Pittsburgh in the last six games played in Baltimore and that's pretty amazing … right?

Spread Notes - Baltimore is 4-8-1 ATS in games against the Steelers in recent years.
